Interesting that you picked up on this collective unhappiness in Leipzig. Saxony is one of the German counties (do you call them that) with the highest rate of afd voters.

I heard Saxony described as a state while I was there. My cousin used to be in parliament and he gave me an interesting overview of politics, at least in terms of immigration. It's not surprising that there are more conservative voters in the eastern part of the country, based on its history...

When I was a kid in Utah we had neighbors who had somehow got out of East Germany. The mom and my mom became good friends. Years later my Mom said that the lady had said the Russians treated women, horribly.

I’ve come to find out that extremely private people are that way for a reason.

Yes, I think you're right about the Russian soldiers. And yeah, some people want to tell everyone about their trauma, others prefer not to say a word. I suspect the healthiest route is the middle path.
